London Lisbonite in London: Rough chic at Favela Chic
Rough chic never really appealed to me. The juxtaposition looks impressive in interior magazines but in an actual home I'm always left wondering if the owners didn't just run out of paint. In short, it's nice to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there. However, the Brazilian bar Favela Chic in East London does the whole look very well. The handdryers in the bathroom are papered with book pages and so are the hallway ceilings. Upstairs in the main bar, random planks are affixed to walls next to baroque wallpaper and old wooden chests. Again, a nice place to visit, even if you certainly wouldn't want to live there! Apologies for the quality of the photos, the iPhone really has a lot to answer for.
