Styling interiors like Miranda Watchorn
Sometimes interior design magazines make me sick. The clutter artfully arranged in and around the pristine rooms (an antique shawl, a collection of hand-carved pens carefully splayed in a semi-circle on a printed vintage tray, an attractively shaggy dog) never looks anything like my clutter (multiple books with broken spines, discarded teacups, more remotes than I know what to do with). But there’s certainly an art to getting that clutter right and, as the professionals call it, staging the shot. Take Miranda Watchorn’s work for example. With just the right touch here and there, a small wooden stool by the bath for a book, for example, or juice on a family breakfast table that's been decanted into a vintage milk bottle, she manages to bring life and warmth into interiors shots that would otherwise look starched and awkward. All I can do is try to learn. What's your favourite little touch?
