Pedrita: Flat pack furniture with extra storage space

Any furniture or household implements that need to be put together from a box are the bane of my existence. Life is just too short to be spent messing about with flat-pack furniture. As I type, the boyfriend is currently working on putting together a large fan. He's currently going through a large box, muttering oaths under his breath as he searches for the base so that he can put the whole thing together, which only lends credence to my firmly held belief that nothing that needs to assembled from bits in a box should be attempted on a Sunday afternoon. When Portuguese design partnership Pedrita (PEDRO FERREIRA E RITA JOÃO) started working on a flat-pack collection, they wanted to avoid exactly this situation by creating something easy to build that fulfilled a basic need (such as a table or a bathroom cupboard) but that would also allow for extra space that would allow for discreet storage. The idea was to make DIY furniture that didn't look cheap and nasty and I think they suceeded - see their table and bathroom sliding cupboard below. Their designs look a lot nicer than most pieces of furniture that you'd find in the average box but I'm still not convinced that they'll be any less fiddly and irritating to put together!
