Traditional homewares: A Vida Portuguesa

The last couple of years have seen a real rise in the use of vintage and retro accessories in the home, from the increase in demand for patterned wallpaper rather than paint, to the return to baking causing sales of old tea sets to rocket. Catarina Portas, a Portuguese journalist-turned-shopkeeper has opened A Vida Portuguesa (The Portuguese Life), a shop in Lisbon (as well as online and in Porto) that specialises in selling forgotten brands in their original packaging. Her range includes traditional food, ceramics, cleaning products, toiletries, traditional games, stationary and tablecloths. I can't wait to get home at Christmas - this place is going to be the first place I visit!

Couto toothpaste (Pasta dentifrica Couto)
Claus Porto soaps (Sabonetes Claus Porto)
Litografia Maia playing cards (Cartas Litografia Maia)
Various Zelly flours (Farinhas Zelly)
Coracao metal cleaning products (Limpa metais Coracao)
Triunfo Olive Oil (Azeite Triunfo)

  1. I've only heard of Claus Porto soaps but the rest of the products look divine. What a great concept for a store!

    Cheers,

  2. ALKEMIE: It's wonderful isn't it? She sources the products directly from the factories that used to make them. I'm definately going to stock up when I'm home!
