Extending a property is always a hassle, what with planning permission, builders on site for ages and the cost involved in a project. If you aren't able to extend out or up (to an attic), a new company called the Base Room that I saw in the Times might be the answer. Most people don't have space for a large log cabin in the garden and basement rooms take up to six months to construct and cost a minimum of £100k. Bring in the Base Room. The idea is to create a room that sits just 200 mm out of the ground and looks as though it was part of the garden, a normal decking area - a wholly usable, soundproofed space. The great thing about these rooms is that, in the majority of cases, they don't require planning permission. Personally I'm thinking a home cinema room with a wine cellar, cheese tasting nook, bathroom and sauna (why not?!) would be pretty nice.
Got something you'd like me to look at, consider or review? Or just want my recipe for the ultimate Amaretto Sour? Either way, leave me a comment or send me an email.
